During August 2002 I shall be visiting the United States for the first time. I anticipate that it will be relatively easy to find vegan and vegetarian food in New York. I suspect that it will be hard to find vegan and vegetarian food in Orlando and Key West. My usual fallback position is to shop in shops and supermarkets for picnic food. My fear is that food labelling in the United States is much less helpful than in Europe. I wonder if I am correct.
Making use of guide books and web searches, there are several eating places in Manhattan that appear to serve explicitly vegan food. Two places I have identified are:
1.
Kate's
Joint, 58 Ave B
between 4th and 5th Sts; Subway: F to Second Ave–Lower East Side; (tel: 212-777-7059);
serving 09:00-01:00
2. Apple Restaurant, 17 Waverly Pl between Mercer and Greene Sts, A, C, E, B, D, F, Q to W 4th St–Washington Sq; N, R to 8th St–NYU (tel: 212-473-8888); serving Mon–Thu 12:00–23:00; Fri, Sat 12:00–00:00; Sun 12:00–22:00.
