You're off on holiday for a relaxing break. You're packed and ready to go, but what will you do with the degus? We know how hard it can be to find someone who knows about degus to look after them while you're away, but
Degutopia is here to help!
We can accommodate your furries so that you can relax, knowing they're in the best possible hands!

Sounds good! What do you offer for them?
Your degus will receive the best care from us. You tell us what they eat, how much, how often and any other special care and we will do the rest! We will feed and water your degus daily, and let them out for exercise and a sand bath in our degu play area for at least half an hour every day. We will play with them and clean them out regularly- what more could they ask for?!

How much does it cost?
Since it's really no trouble for us, the cost for you to board your degus is just £1 per day! This is mainly to cover the cost of any food, bedding, hay, etc that we give to your degus. For example, if you were away for 14 days, the charge for us to look after 1-4 degus would be £14. Simple!
If you wanted us to look after more than 4 degus, we may ask a bit more, just check with us first. The minimum charge is £5, so if, for example, we were to look after your degus for 3 days, it would still cost £5. The charge applies for each day your degu spends with us, from the day they arrive to the day they leave- just ask us for more information!

What will I have to do?
If you're interested, get in touch with us and we'll arrange the date you want to drop off your degus, and an approximate date for collection. You will need to be able to bring the degus to us in an appropriate cage. We may or may not have a cage to house your degus in during their stay with us, please check with us first. You will also need to collect your degus from us when you return, but this can be arranged when you get home if you prefer. Remember, we are based in Leicester, UK.
That's it- leave the rest to us!

Is there anything else I have to do?
On arriving with us, we will ask you to fill out and sign a short form. This form will contain your contact details, home address and emergency contact number so we know how to get hold of you should we need to. By signing, you will agree to let us look after your degus until your return- you can see a copy of this form here (pdf). We will also ask you to leave a deposit with us before you leave, this is usually half the cost of the degus' stay.

Touch wood, but what if one of my degus gets ill?
Should the worst happen and one of your degu becomes ill, rest assured we will do everything we can to help them. In an emergency we will not hesitate to take your degu to a vet (the same one we use). As soon as we can, we will inform you of any costs incurred and their progress. Where we are able to, we will contact you before treatment is given (except in an emergency), and we will keep a record and receipts of any vet charges for you to review.

Before bringing your degus to us, please make sure you review the advice on traveling with degus in the car. Preparation and suitable travel means are crucial to getting your degus to us safely.
