    In business in Bath Street Ilkeston as a carriage builder mentioned in Kelly`s directory 1891 1904  1916 and 1922.  The business was called Borough Coach Works.  A partnership was formed with Alfred Hill  c1890 and sometimes referred to as Hill & Beniston.

    Borough of Ilkeston rate book 1914 folio 86 has this reference to thepremises .....
    Beniston James  Bath Street Coach Builders Yard & Workshop est rental£19.18s. yard  £4.00 workshop.

    Interred in Park Cemetery Ilkeston register no 10020.  His wife Mary Ann and and his daughter in law Annie in the same plot.
    Park cemetery was opened in 1892 - vide  pp 40-41 `Ilkeston as a Borough` by Cyril Hargreaves.

    On son Arthur`s 2nd marriage certificate and on his death certificateJames`s occupation appears as Wheelwright.

    Shown on census as boarding with James and family in 1901 was John W Fitzgerald age 22 Manager of tailoring department.
