I was looking through your examples to find history of inkwell passed through my family. It is a cast metal sitting camel with rather ornate harness & saddle. The top portion of the saddle is hinged & glass container for ink is inside. It appears to have been washed in a thin brown paint of some sort & there are remnants of brighter colors used to decorate the saddle, harness fringes, etc. If you have knowledge of this type of item, I would like to learn. Great web site. thank you

I am in process of restoring an English writing box of c.1850, and am looking for an ink bottle to match the existing one (long shot!) Can you direct me to any source which may be able to help upon a complete description, or could you? It is similar to the square, sloped-shoulder, screw-top bottle in your collection. I believe the screw top to be silver, or silvered, but have not yet examined it in any great detail, as I am concentrating on the woodwork.
