Rotherham

The Beaumont Society's annual conference weekend at Rotherham is always a grand affair and as such is one of the targets for one's best dresses. The most important feature is meeting all those good friends we have. The hotel standard was quite as good as usual (indeed the rooms had been refurbished), but the food wasn't quite as excellent as we remember. Nevertheless the dresses came first. Here of course are Pamela's highlights.....

Some years ago, I had a copy made of a Duchess of York dress (for the full gory details see The Duchess and the TV !) Subsequently we discovered that despite the Sunday Times showing a black-and-white affair (feeble excuse of a monochrome newspaper) the original was actually in a bronze-orange. Eventually we tracked down some suitable material and recreated something close to (but not identical with) the original. The wizard dressmaker showed her genius again.... One of the joys of these weekends is being able to go out as Pamela for something as simple as a drive. This time we went to Sherwood Forest and despite her predilection for green (Lincoln?), this time it was bright yellow and black leather.

(There's something rather sensuous about tight but soft black leather trousers and boots... must be hankering after Emma Peel again ;-)

The fashion highlight was this little black-and-white number, inspired by an Italian design in this year's fashion season. Slinky to wear and a joy to wrap the stole around it. Of course all the accessories have to match, including the eyelashes. A divine creation that I enjoyed very much (one of the nicest dresses I've ever had). It was a perfect match to the '30s jazz band at the gala dinner - Pamela danced until she got blisters!

Sometimes you need something a little simpler....

This one is a pair of slacks with a slit in the back of the legs up to the knee - the stockings are seamed fishnets with black bows on the seam...
