Dolmen
Dougga
Damme, near Bruges in Belgium - canal is screened with reeds in foreground - photo also shows timing - waiting for the cyclist, to add interest and animation
Carreg Samson near Mathry - a megalithic chambered tomb - positioned in the middle distance to show it within the landscape, positioned to the right to lead the eye through to the coastline beyond
Ruins of Dougga, a Roman city in north west Tunisia - doorway used as a frame for the remains of the Capitol
La Defense
Lille Cathedral
Midsummer in Sweden
La Defense, Paris - pool on main route through this business district - brightly coloured lines lead the eye through to 'La Grande Arche'
Lille Cathedral - Cathedral Notre Dame de la Treille, started in 1854 and completed in 1999 - people used in this photo to show scale and create a focal point - illuminated wall is set off-centre to improve composition - camera was braced against a pillar
Midsummer garland on churchyard cross, Skansen, Stockholm - close-up to exclude a cluttered background, and cross is placed against a sunlit area
Shadows
Thuburbo, Tunisia
Zaghouan
Ferry from Holyhead to Dublin - the bow was full of people watching the sunset - these are their shadows behind them
Thuburbo Majus, a Roman city near to Zaghouan in north-central Tunisia - wall is positioned diagonally across the foreground to lead the eye on to the columns - taken early in the morning for dramatic light
Zaghouan - view across valley about an hour after dawn - taken about 100 metres from the Thuburbo shot and half an hour later - donkey positioned to one side to add foreground interest
