In 1891 he was living in Gateshead with his mother and working as a packer in a local glass factory. His address on the marriage certificate is given as "Shotley" and his occupation as "Farmer". Shortly before his marriage he was apparently living at Hole Row near Consett, Co. Durham. This building is now incorporated in the Royal Derwent Hotel. Do you have any information about Hole Row Farm and/or its occupants at the turn of the twentieth century?
