York Minster from the city wallsYork Minster
York Minster is the chief church in the Northern Province of The Church of England and is the seat of the Archbishop of York. The present building is the largest medieval cathedral in Northern Europe.
  

National Railway Museum
Discover the story of the train in a great day out for all the family. The National Railway Museum mixes fascination and education with hours of fun. And best of all its free.

Flying Scotsman  Information site on what is perhaps the most famous train in the world, housed at the National Railway Museum in York.

Jorvik Centre
No visit to the City of York would be complete without a journey back in time to the Viking age city of Jorvik. In the late 1970's archaeologists uncovered the beautifully preserved remains of the Viking age street of Coppergate. Now, following 25 years of research this part of the city of York has been reconstructed exactly as it would have been on 25 October AD 975.

Fairfax House   Fairfax House is one of the finest eighteenth-century townhouses in England, and is home of the famous Noel Terry collection of furniture

The two main cinema complexes are City Screen in the City Centre and Vue at Clifton Moor Retail Park.

York Theatre Royal  Situated just minutes from York Minster the Theatre Royal offers quality performances throughout the year with one of the best pantomimes in the Country at Christmas time --  Oh No It Isnt!!!!!

ATTRACTIONS OUT OF THE CITY CENTRE

 

Harewood House     ENJOY HALF PRICE ENTRY WHEN STAYING AT THE BLOOMSBURY
With magnificent interiors by Robert Adam, furnishings by Thomas Chippendale and marvelous examples of fine art from the Renaissance to the present day, Harewood is one of the great Treasure Houses of Britain. Set in glorious gardens and grounds and including a Bird Garden and adventure playground, Harewood is an ideal day out for all the family.

   

Castle Howard 
A glorious day out in one of Britain's finest homes. Setting for the TV epic 'Brideshead Revisited' and more recently used for the new film version, Castle Howard is the home of the Howard Family and provides a fantastic insight into how 'the other half' live!
  

Newby Hall   Setting for ITV's recent adaptation of Mansfield Park, Newby Hall epitomizes the Georgian age and its interior presents Robert Adam at his very best.  Set amidst stunning gardens on the bank of the River Ure Newby is a must for all garden lovers.                   

York Maize Maze  1.5 million maize plants have created what is thought to be the largest maze in the world.  Every year the maze has a different theme before being fed to the cows!

The Walled Garden   Scampston Hall  An exciting contemporary design, created by Piet Oudolf within the 4.5 acre walled garden, complemented by a stylish restaurant   

 

 

Tomlinsons Fine Antiques  Situated just a short drive from York is the largest selection of antique furniture in the UK.

Rievaulx Abbey Just 12 Clairvaux monks came to Rievaulx in 1132. From these modest beginnings grew one of the wealthiest monasteries of medieval England and the first northern Cistercian monastery.

 

Bempton Cliffs RSPB Nature Reserve 
Fancy some fresh air?? The chalk cliffs at Bempton form part of England's largest seabird colony. Over 200,000 seabirds breed on the reserve alone. Between April and August, puffins and gannets as well as numerous other birds return to the cliffs to breed. The cliffs are located near Bridlington on the East Riding coast

Helmsley Walled Garden  Helmsley Walled Garden is a beautiful five acre walled garden in the heart of North Yorkshire, England. Dating from 1758, and set against the spectacular backdrop of Helmsley Castle the garden is gradually being restored to its former glory.

   

Steam Train Tours Over several weeks in the summer why not have a day out on a steam train.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park Set amongst 500 acres of 18th Century parkland experience contemporary and modern sculpture.

Harrogate Flower Show The Harrogate Spring Flower Show is regarded by many as the start of the UK's gardening show season.

Eden Camp  Be transported back to Wartime Britain.  Situated in a genuine Prisoner of War camp built in 1942 Eden Camp takes you on a journey through over 30 huts showing the sites, sounds and smells of Britain during the Second World War.
