Paul trained at Motley, following an English degree at Oxford. Designs include Our Country's Good (Watermill, Newbury), On the Rocks (Hampstead), Jonah and Otto (Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester), Tom Fool (Glasgow Citizens’ and The Bush), Other Hands, Shoreditch Madonna and Flush (all at Soho) and Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare’s Globe), as well work for Arcola, Theatre 503, Riverside Studios, Hackney Empire, Southwark Playhouse, UK tours and venues in New York and Vienna.

As a director-designer he led devising on A Place at The Table (Camden People’s Theatre), Selfish (The Arches, Glasgow, and Camden People’s Theatre), Out of Nothing (The Junction, Cambridge) and Rang (National College of Arts, Pakistan), and collaborated on a programme of experimental work across the UK and in Siberia for Scale Project. He has taught scenography or related topics at the National College of Arts, Pakistan and various educational institutions in the UK, and currently teaches a Theatre Production class at Goldsmiths, London. He also works in youth arts.

Every Brilliant Thing, an installation made with Simon Daw and nabokov based on Duncan Macmillan's short story Sleeve Notes and developed through the 'Every Brilliant Thing' Facebook group was shown at this year's Latitude Festival.

A Place at the Table, a piece of verbatim theatre based on events in Burundi and directed and designed by Paul for Daedalus Theatre Company was shown at Camden People's Theatre in April, and will tour in 2010. Amongst the good reviews, Time Out called it “a brilliant visual platform... a powerful testament to the act of bearing witness”?

Following the seminar he led in 2007, and the creation of Rang, a play without actors, both at NCA, Pakistan, Paul has been invited to return in 2010...
