Draycote Saturday morning event

This was my first event, and overall, the day seemed to go well with a reasonable turn out (42 people) and the weather was kind (until I came to collect the controls).

Things might have been a bit different if it wasn’t for the offer of help from John Ward who did sterling work on registration (it was needed because the road closure meant I underestimated the time to put out the controls so I only finished at 1020).

Also Paul Furness arrived very early with the emit equipment and handled the results processing by trying out the software for district events (colour coded). He seemed to have sorted the software so perhaps Liz is no longer an Emit widow.

The last few events at Draycote started from the top of the hill so I decided to start at the entrance. This had the advantage of having toilets nearby and the use of the Severn Trent offices in case of bad weather, though perhaps I should have put more signs out as a few of you went up the hill looking for the registration.

Draycote is not the best of areas and in winter visibility is very good so for those on Green I threw the hill in early on, in the hope that it might tire you out and you might  make a few mistakes later on when running fast. From some of the comments the hill did seem to be a bit of a shock to the system especially those that hadn’t warmed up!

Many thanks to Paul and John and to Bob for sorting the equipment out and of course to those of you who turned up.

The good news is that Mike is looking to extended the map (less of the hill perhaps?) and Severn Trent are thinking of having a permanent course at Draycote.
