Yvette Baker Trophy first round Victory!

Well done to all OD juniors including affiliated King Henry pupils and Warwick University students.

We had a great turnout with 33 competing in the Yvette Baker qualifying round at Shugborough, winning the round to go through to the final at Sherwood Pines on 4th December.  Our strength in depth was impressive and although only the top 9 on the day counted for our points, many of the others pushed HOC, WCH and MDOC runners into lower places!

Alan Halliday - Club Captain

OD get through to next round of compass sport cup thanks to a great turnout. Next round at Burnley 16th October.

Congratulations to Lesley Ross , Graham Gristwood, Jessica Halliday, Catherine Wilson and Robert Gardner they will represent  England at Interland 2005!

OD GETS AWARDS FOR ALL GRANT

We have now heard that our application to the Awards for All programme has been successful, and that we have been awarded a grant of £4195.  This will meet 50% of the cost of our proposal (described below); the other 50% will be met from club funds, which we have built up for this purpose.

Basically, the grant is for electronic equipment for use at our small-scale local events and for our work with schools. As we said in our application:  This is easier to use for participants, has a more attractive image, and enables the provision of rapid information about performance to participants.  All of these benefits will facilitate access and increase participation.  Electronic equipment also allows more imaginative use of small areas of land, such as inner city parks in Coventry and Bedworth and school playing fields.

The Committee is currently evaluating the services and products offered by the two electronic systems, Sportident and Emit, before coming to a final decision about which would be best to purchase.  We have some experience already of Sportident; to introduce officials and participants to Emit, it will be used at the Draycote event on Saturday 7 February and at the Ragley event on Sunday 29 February.

If you have any views on the relative merits of the two systems, please let Committee members know.
