OVERSLEY WOODS EVENT UPDATED RESULTS
Planners Comments (David Beal)
The combination of heavy rain and forestry work during December required late changes, however they did bring some additional challenges to an excellently remapped familiar area. Many thanks to Greta and the control collectors for their help.
Controller’s Comments (Greta)
All the controls were in the right place, it was a nice evening/day and it was a pleasure working with David & Bob. The night event was straight forward, as it should have been with so few competitors. Everyone came the next morning! The organisation coped with the shortage of control descriptions and power. I will add my thanks to the Hartman family as I was helping out in the download tent when things started to slow down. The new equipment is fine for the planner but the club obviously has some teething problems with download/results which I’m sure will be sorted out in time for the next event.
Organiser's Comments (Bob Brandon)
I took over from Chris Dwyer following ill-health within his family. Effort prior to holiday period was limited to arranging hire of emit-cards - thanks to Jerry Newcombe. As usual John Bowman had made firm arrangements with Chris Corbett, the farmer at Oversley Hill Farm. Chris was pleased to accommodate us and is happy that we raised £123 in parking fees over the weekend which Chris will be passing on The Acorn Charity.
My supplier of the registration cards did not deliver my requested colours (I should have gone to KallKwik). This mis-match caused confusion to competitors and officials alike. This event was the first emit event for Octavian Droobers without EMIT personnel on hand. The event adds to experience gained to date, but begs the need for a consolidation session in order that the Club can roll out emit punching at an event such as this so as to include split times on the internet. A disappointment was the performance of the download printers' batteries. The batteries had a good overnight charge as is recommended, however each lost power as the event progressed - even the printer at the string course Finish. Each printer should have enough power to do 1 hour of continuous printing which is the equivalent of approximately 1200 cards with 15 punches. This issue is something that the club will be resolving prior to the next event. We are grateful to Lynden and Lester Hartmann for making available the power facilities of their camper-van in order that we could maintain continuity for downloading.
A big thank you to all of the ever willing helpers, particularly Amy and Tim who were up at 6.30am to set up the start and finish, mark the route to the start before collecting the parking fee for three hours - they then chose to record their first Blue course result. We arrived home shortly before 5pm. Also to David Beal and Greta Shields for taking the time and trouble to plan and control the event.
Download Comments (Paul Furness)
Apologies to those runners who did not receive a copy of their splits on the day
due to printing problems. These results have been produced from the
download, consequently there are more disqualifications! These are subject to
final controlling. Splits are now available note: the links to CLUB splits fail as
CLUB splits have not been loaded.
