  1. 15 May 1996: finished linking pre-existing text.

  2. 21 May 1996: pages up-loaded to zen.co.uk.

  3. 23 May 1996. Greenaway material: completion of The Bird List Song List (details of birds 21-92 tabulated and uploaded).
ERROR! My ftp software has taken flight of its senses and only details on birds 21 to 70 were actually logged.
Error corrected 24 May: the complete Bird List Song List is divided over three files.

  4. 24 May 1996. Greenaway material: new file created. 'Latest research' reproduces the reports sent to the VFI secretary by various VFI scholars. This material will be weaved into this site in the near future.

  5. 24 May 1996. Greenaway material: folder inserted into Greenaway folder that contains links to related sites.

  6. 25 May 1996. Minor alterations to the VT-92 TEM.
Greenaway material: VUE Languages are given their own folder which contains links to lengthy discussions of individual languages. 'What is the Falls' is re-written.

  7. 26 May 1996. Counter added to desktop page.

  8. 27 May 1996. Greenaway material: feedback form added to VFI material. Routines in Java Script added.

  9. 3 June 1996. Greenaway folder: another research document lodged; minor changes to the Introduction to the Bird List Interview.

  10. 18 June 1996. I haven't been updating this document as I should. (I'm hopeless at keeping diaries by the way - I rarely get beyond the 9 of January.) Briefly, the Greenaway folder has had several new files and folders added. Of particular interest is the 'Who's Who' folder. In response to e-mail concerning David Hockney I've added a chronology of DH's practice and an interview I conducted with DH during December 1994.

  11. 7 July 1996. I note the neglect of this 'journal' continues. Briefly, new files added, a couple of animated gifs have been uploaded. The 'What is the Falls' file has been modified in light of a BFI booklet posted to me by a customer of the VFI. A section on THE FALLS and geographical issues has finally been uploaded. I find myself tempted to add a folder devoted to PG's film A Walk Through H.
I notice my desktop has been 'hit' over 320 times.
The summer is proving to be awful here in Manchester - last week the weather was more appropriate to February than July. Still, in a couple of weeks I'll be sunning myself in the USA.

  12. 8 October 1996. I cannot believe it's been so long since I last updated this file. I'm spurred on to do so by having provided links to photographs of the Brothers Quay let me see them. I'm inclined to list the number of visitors to the various pages on this site
    desktop, 575
    Hockney pages, 385
    Greenaway pages, 675
The Hockney exhibition I've been working on opens in Manchester next month so I suppose I ought to get together some web-related pages.

  13. 26 October 1996. Instead of preparing web pages for the Hockney exhibition I decided to begin developing a site dedicated to the 92 suitcases that Tulse Luper is known to have packed. I've just come in from working on the garden - it's a fine autumn day.

  14. 7 February 1997. I note the Greenaway page has been visited 1391 times. To maintain interest I've added material on his film 'H is for House'.

  15. 5 April 1997. A large number of changes which I won't detail here have been made since Februrary. Number of visitors to the various pages on this site
    desktop 1437
    Hockney homepage 774
    Greenaway homepage 1912
    Tulse Luper homepage 236

  16. 16 October 1997. Neglect of this desktop history file continues. I realise that I omitted to celebrate one year of the VFI's existence on 21 May. How many other anniversaries have I missed? Recent months have seen material added to the Greenaway folder; scripts for 'A Walk Through H', 'H is for House' and 'Windows', 30 suitcases loaded on to the Tulse Luper Luggage Rack and existing material expanded, tweaked or corrected. A surprising number of people - 5 - have subscribed to the journal 'Rubbish', the subscription form can be found in the trash icon on the desktop, which has entailed the writing and editing of some 5 issues of Rubbish. Numerous people have taken the time to complete the VFI Feedback Form, found in the Greenaway folder. Receiving and responding to feedback has proved not only enjoyable but also satisfying. The principal work of the VFI over the next couple of months is bound to be increasing the number of Tulse Luper's suitcases available to public inspection. As I mentioned before, 30 can be viewed at the moment and something like 50 should be uploaded before the end of the year. Nigel Harris in Japan is currently investigating a suitcase that has been designed for the ShockWave Plugin.
The catalogue of E-Cards - accessed via the desktop - has undergone a remarkable expansion and two issues of the E-Card-Catalogue have been published. The E-C-Cat provides details on all those items the E-Card Secretary has chosen to signify with an EC number.
The architecture of the site seems to be holding up - no radical rethink appears to be required. It's now 19.11 on Thursday 16 October. It's unseasonally warm. I'm becoming interested in what can only be termed the 'structurality of structure'.

  17. 28 June 1999. 1 year and 8 months since the last entry. The above reads like it was written by someone else as I find it hard to connect with the state of mind or set of interests which led me to write it. Indeed, it is something of an effort to remember how to format this text in HTML.
Little work has gone into the VFI's website despite my receiving e-mails from visitors saying how interesting they find the pages. Only today someone requested a couple of E-Cards listed in, although not linked to, the EC-Catalogue.
Nevertheless, the format of the VFI's site appears to be holding up and is clearly capable of expansion. I am still interested in expanding that section devoted to Greenaway's scripts for his films. I also still find the EC-Library interesting.
An official Tulse Luper Suitcase site has opened, although this will not deter the VFI from continuing with their project.
Here are the number of visits the various pages of this site have received as at 5 June 1999
    Desktop 6,506
    Hockney homepage 3,384
    Greenaway homepage 15,643
    Tulse Luper homepage 3,066
Clearly only one fifth of those people who are interested in Greenaway are also interested in Tulse Luper.

  18. 21 January 2001. A long time since the last entry. VFI webstie changes ISP - from Zen Internet to BT Internet.
