Arriving By Car
One can approach the dojo from two directions - from Glasgow and from Cumbernauld. Please refer to the below map.
From Glasgow City Centre
Get on to the M8, following signs for Edinburgh, until you reach Junction 13, where you turn on to the M80, following signs for Stirling. You will pass large blue gas containers on your left. Follow the M80 until becomes the A80 at the large roundabout at Stepps (it has a grass-covered pyramid in the centre). Take the first exit (there is a filter lane). Stay in the left-hand lane. Very soon you will reach a BP petrol station. This is the petrol station marked on the bottom left on the map on this page. Take the left fork in the road before the lights. Then continue on this road through the lights until you reach a Jet petrol station. This is the petrol station marked on the top right of the map. Turn left into Chryston Road. You should be able to see the Iain Nicolson Recreation Centre at this point.
If you miss the fork before the lights, stay in the left-hand lane and make the next left at the Jet petrol station. Then follow the directions below following the Jet petrol station.
Traveling From Cumbernauld
Travelling on the A80 heading towards Glasgow. You will pass through the Moodiesburn traffic lights. This is the first set of lights on the A80 after the M73 junction on the A80. There will be a metal foot bridge crossing the road and you will pass by Moodiesburn House on your left hand-side. At this point move into the right-hand lane. Soon you will reach a turning lane which is in sight of a Jet petrol station. This is the petrol station marked on the top right of the above map. Turn right just at the Jet petrol station. This is Chryson Road and the Iain Nicolson Recreation Centre will be visible.
If you miss the junction at the Jet petrol station, carry on until you reach the next set of lights. Turn right into the town and follow the directions above from the BP petrol station.
Arriving By Air
If you arrive by plane, it's advisable to take public transport into Glasgow City Centre and make your way to Buchanan Bus Station, to catch a bus to the dojo. Catching a taxi from any of the airports is not to be contemplated!
Glasgow Airport
From Glasgow Airport, catch one of the frequent shuttle buses from outside the departure hall to Buchanan Bus Station. It should cost about £3 each way. Then follow the directions given in the Arriving By Bus section. Taxis into Glasgow will cost about £15 (at the time of writing) from the taxi rank outside the departure hall.
Edinburgh Airport
From Edinburgh Airport, catch a shuttle bus into Edinburgh City Centre. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and terminates at Waverley Bridge, near to the main railway station and bus station and is just off the city's main street, Princes Street. Tickets cost about £3.50 each way and can be bought on the bus itself.
Alternatively you can catch a bus from Waverly Bridge bus station direct to Buchanan Bus Station. Journey's take about an hour but are substantially cheaper. Then follow the directions in the section Arriving By Bus.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Catch the train from the Prestwick International Airport station direct to Glasgow Central Station. To reach this station, do not exit the building into the carpark - follow the signs up the escalator to the covered walkway to the station. If you fly with a Ryanair flight, keep the ticket-stubs - you will be entitled to a 50% discount on the journey to and from Glasgow Central Station. At the time of writing this is £2.50 each way (£5 to non-Ryanair passengers).
Arriving By Train
There is no train station near the dojo - you will need to take a bus from Buchanan Bus Station.
Trains from the North of Glasgow generally terminate at Glasgow Queen Street Station, those from the South complete their journey at Glasgow Central Station.
Consider the streetmap. Don't worry, the distances are not great - the length of the directions given below are due to the number of landmarks put in to orientate around.
Getting to Buchanan Bus Station from Queen Street Train Station
This should only take 5 minutes.
There are a number of exits from the station. Follow the U signs for the exit to Buchanan Street underground station. Do not enter the underground but walk up the steps on the right towards Cathedral Street. Turn left at the road and walk under the Buchanan Galleries shopping mall. You will be able to see a large video screen on top of the Royal Concert Hall.
Turn right and cross the street, walking towards the statue of Donald Dewar in the square in front of the Royal Concert Hall, continuing left to walk around the shops at the base of the Concert Hall. Turn right at West Nile Street. You will see the tall UGC cinema building on your left. The bus station is visible on your right, past Langs Hotel at the crossroads.
Getting to Buchanan Bus Station from Central Station
This should only take 15 minutes.
There are many exits from Central Station. Find the main (huge) arrivals and departures board and walk away from it, past the ticket office. You should exit at Gordon Street. Turn right and walk along Gordon Street, crossing Mitchell Street until you reach Buchanan Street, a pedestrian area. Turn left at Borders bookshop and walk up the street, towards the large video screen on top of the Royal Concert Hall.
Walk towards the Royal Concert Hall, towards the statue of Donald Dewar and then go left to walk around it, turning right at West Nile Street. You will see the tall UGC cinema building on your left. The bus station is visible on your right, past Langs Hotel at the crossroads.
Arriving By Bus
Buses into Glasgow generally terminate at Buchanan Bus Station, so you should be well placed to get a bus to the dojo.
In general, most buses except express buses, going to Cumbernauld will stop at the town of Muirhead. Explain to the driver that you wish to get off the bus at the last stop in Muirhead, at Chryston Road near the Jet petrol station. The journey should take about 30 minutes and cost about £1.50.
At the time of writing, the buses listed should go past the dojo. Please check with the driver before boarding the bus! Clicking the bus number will display a timetable, if available.
