Today, we hear again the story of the Wise Men who, guided by the light of a star, came to Bethlehem to honour the Christ child. We too are on a journey, a journey to that heavenly Bethlehem, where we hope to meet the Lord face to face. We are guided, not by the light of a star, but by the light of faith. Though the Magi were guided by a heavenly light, a star, they did not know where the star would lead them. Hence, their journey was very much a journey of faith. An even when they saw the child, they still had to make an act of faith. Seeing is not necessarily believing. The story of the Magi has great relevance for us because we too are on a journey – the Journey of Life. As the Magi were guided by the light of a star, we are guided by the light of faith. Christ, the light of the world, is the star we are following. May the lamp of faith never fail us. May its light see us through the darkness of the world until we reach the heavenly Bethlehem where we shall see Christ in glory.
