The Colne Brothers

Present
A Lavish New Comedy Film
WIVENHOE - The Mocumentary
Screenplay by Martin Newell
Directed by Toby Roberts
poster advertising the well attended premiere This moving film is the creation of Wivenhoe's newest and most exciting film production company: The Colne Brothers, so named, as one might readily guess, after the beautifully muddy River Colne that gurgles its way through the village twice a day towards Colchester.

Rocco a washed up rocker, played by Martin Based on some real, actual stuff, the 30-minute piece was directed by Toby Roberts who began his film career in another riverside town called Los Angeles. Having worked alongside some locally recognized names, such as Oliver Stone, Eric Idle and Ozzy Osbourne, Toby decided that he should seek out a new Hollywood away from the inhospitably clement weather of California. And so he returned home to Essex.

The uproariously funny film began nearly a year ago with Martin Newell who began his career as a wordsmith by composing and singing with bands such as Plod and The Cleaners From Venus as well as working with the likes of Captain Sensible and XTC. Since then his words have appeared in print in a number of books and regularly in The Independent as the pop poet for the past 12 years.
The Earlof Wivenhoe, as played by Paul Ridley Thomas
The cast includes professional actors as well as a city businessmen, a professor and a hairdresser, amongst others - all Wivenhoe residents. And it's beautifully narrated by leading culture vulture Anthony Everitt, former Arts Council supremo and best-selling author of "Hi Honey, I'm Homer!"

You will encounter the differently wired denizens of the bohemian riverside town of Wivenhoe. You'll see Ted Jarvis, countryman, rural sage and naked gardener as he chews the gristle of the Old Wivenhoe values versus the 'skipping-rope and jelly' world of the Bookshopladies. Shimmy back to the Sixties with burned-out, wanna be rockstar, Rocco. Meet the 11th Earl of Clingoe as he hobnobs with the locals, dressed in his inimitably self styled top hat and tails. Empower yourself with local activist Anita Mann . Eavesdrop on Gavin the actor, Sybil the writer and veteran artist, Dudley Whitton-Tritton, as he attempts to repaint his fuzzy past, and meet Wivenhoe's 'men of consequence' taking in a power breakfast with entrepreneur Sir Ronald Hovis. If you only see one half-hour  the bookshop ladies, Newell and Paul Ridley Thomas comedy film about an Essex riverside town this year, make it this one. WIVENHOE: it's another world.  Anita Mann, played by Jane Olerenshaw
