Paul Evans 4th dan Dan

I began my Aikido training in December 1993 at the Bridgnorth Dojo having no
previous Martial experience under Seamus Hill and Brian Burrows.  I soon began to travel about amongst the Midlands Aikido community training under a number of different instructors, whilst remaining loyal to my own club.

I have trained under Mr William Smith, Gordon Jones and Phillip Smith.  I have also attended seminars given by Japanese instructors such as Yamada, Tamara, Shibata, Chiba, Sugawara and Koybeashi. I also recently travelled to see Christian Tissier, Europes foremost western Aikido instructor.

I believe that an open mind is essential to progress in Aikido with a willingness to embrace new ideas and an acceptance of your own shortcomings.  An egotistical approach will only stunt growth and has no place in the Dojo.

Recent History

January 1999 I took over the Bridgnorth Dojo at a time when it was in imminent danger of closing.  It is now a thriving beginners class, which has added a new dimension to my Aikido.  I am a qualified B.A.B coach and have passed a number of coaching courses.

March 2001 I attained 2nd Dan.

January 2003 I was awarded the rank of Fukushidoin which means that am able to grade students in my own dojo.  At present I can grade to the rank of 3rd kyu.

February 2004 Brian Burrows took a decision to make Shun Poo Kan an Aikido organization in its own right dedicated to following the Hombu path.  The new organization was formally recognized by the  BAB in March 2004.

May 2004 I graded to 3rd Dan.

January 2005 saw one of my first students Dan Gilbert return to the US.  He has now established Shun Poo Kan North Carolina adding an international element to Shun Poo Kan.

September 2006 Saw members of the Bridgnorth Dojo travel to the US for a week long training camp hosted by Dan Gilbert (Shun Poo Kan North Carolina). Sessions were taught by Mr Burrows and myself

October 2006 Chiba Sensei 8th Dan gives the Bridgnorth Dojo its own Japanese name - Ji Gen Kan.  This means house of self essence, a place where one cultivates ones own self essence.

January 2009 I attained BAB Coach Level 2.

April 2010 I graded to 4th Dan.
