Heavy Load

This scene begins with another knock on a door. In contrast to "And He Cries ", this time it's not 'The Lover ' who has come home to 'beat up' the One he loves. This time Nancy is walking through the door that leads into her Lover's apartment, much to his absolute surprise! She tells him that she still loves him. This song shows us that that is what he has been secretly hoping (against all hope) that she would do and that it is his daydream turning into reality before his very eyes! He knows that he loves her too but recognises also that there are still many obstacles in the way and 'mountains ' that need to be climbed before they can truly be reconciled and have a chance to build a life together that will last. They have found each other once again but is that really enough to hold them together? Past experience leads him to believe otherwise. He tells her that she carries "such a heavy load" and that the weight of this load prevents her from truly 'flying' and reaching her dreams of true love and fulfillment. She is not able to become that 'whole person' until she can somehow lay down those 'burdens' she has carried all her life. He is now being honest and realistic with her for the first in a very long time. He is however not being judgemental. He is already having to painfully assess his own life and shortcomings and begin to admit honestly to the problems that still exist, as a first step to being 'healed '. This meeting marks a turning point for both of them. They realise now that there is still love between them, but can they make it work this time..?
