Your Promise
Her Lover has also had time to reflect on his past relationship with Nancy. There has certainly been a great deal of mistrust and dishonesty between them over the years. However, he has now come to realise that things are going to have to change radically if he is ever going to reach his "Promised Land ". The first thing he needs to do is to face in the right direction ! "Turn my face towards The Promised Land " he sings over and over again. It comes out of his conviction that for many years he has been moving in the wrong direction and in the process, he has hurt deeply the ones he has loved the most - Nancy and his children. His priorities and orientation must now change. He feels such a great sense of loss as he shouts out the question "How can I love you when you're not around?...tell me ! " He is however left with many strong and vivid memories of 'The Good Times ' which convinces him that he desperately needs to change irrespective of whether or not he will ever see Nancy and his children again...
