In this scene, things are starting to change for the better for Nancy and her Lover. This song describes how both people are discovering that despite the violent storms that have battered their lives and relationship over the years, that one thing is becoming clear. The "wall of ice " and the "ropes of steel" are symbolic images of the 'barriers ', the 'shackles ' and 'chains ' that have bound and stifled their love and relationship for so long.
