No Babylon
This song shows us the power of 'unity' (the solidarity of a caring community) in action to influence the world around us and bring us safely to a place of freedom. There have always been 'slaves' of one kind or another. You cannot just abolish 'slavery' - it is in our nature to 'serve' one way or the other, be it our own selfish interests or the world value systems all around us (that will often demand even the very 'shirts off our backs'!). Alternatively, we can start to serve the interests of others and especially those in need who live all around us. 'Freedom' is therefore not "Babylon" - chaotic and unrestrained or 'Avalon' - ordered and sublime, but it is a place and environment (a nursery) where we can 'grow' and truly become the people we are meant to be. Nancy and her Lover's faces can now be seen amongst this happy crowd of people. Once they and many others around them were part of the problem (social outcasts) but now together they are looking to be part of the solution within their community in order to bring comfort, healing, restoration and ultimately freedom to the broken lives they see all around them. In this way, many more caterpillars will become butterflies...
