Tom McGurk is one of Ireland's most distinguished
journalists and broadcasters. He has been over thirty five years working
in newspapers, radio and television in Ireland and for a decade in the
UK. From 1983 to 1996 he was married to the broadcaster Miriam
O'Callaghan. He is an award-winning journalist, current affairs
broadcaster and the main anchor in Ireland's Heineken Cup and 6-Nations
Rugby coverage. His RTE television credits include presenting programmes
like Tangents, Last House, Folio and he currently anchors major RTE
sports coverage especially rugby. In the UK he fronted Granada Reports
and reported for Channel 4 news and Newsnight BBC. In the late 1980s he
was Foreign Correspondent with The Mail On Sunday (London) reporting
from Latin America, Africa and the USA and he covered the end of the
cold war in Europe. His major television documentary credits include
among many the award winning Stolen Children - Argentina's Dirtiest War
(Thames TV), From Russia With Love (Channel 4) and the 6 part Family
Fortunes for RTE. He co-produced the Emmy award winning documentary
series The Long Journey Home and The history of Irish America for
Disney/PBS. His extensive radio credits include presenting Start the
Week Radio 4 and a wide variety of interview and current affairs
programmes with RTE. He is currently presenting his new radio series
McGurk and Company. He also won a Jacob's Award for his radio
documentary work. His screen writing credits include the television
dramas Dear Sarah (Thames TV/RTE) and The Need to Know (BBC TV). He has
also been a columnist with The Sunday Business Post in Dublin.
