What if it hadn't happened?  What would my life have been like?  Would it have been all ''sunshine and cornflakes''?1  "I could  have been a contender."2  Friends, family, nice house and two cats in the yard?3

I trawl old photograph albums and the internet for other people's lives and take pieces of them.  Pick and mix.  Cut and paste, from their lives into my imaginary life - the one I would have led if it hadn't happened.
