There is an extra prize for this year’s competition, “The Newton Tesla Award”. More details of the drives on their web site

IMLEC is at Northampton in 2005. The advert in Model Engineer saying it is being held at Bristol is a mistake which will be corrected in the next edition.

Entries continue to roll in, we now have 20. Details and photos on the Entrants pages

IMLEC is an annual competition between 3.5 inch gauge and 5 inch gauge miniature coal fired live steam locomotives and an IMLEC award is the “Blue Riband” of miniature locomotive performance. Each year the award goes to the locomotive and driver in each scale which returns the highest overall efficiency for a continuous 30 minute run round the host track pulling a dynamometer car, an observer and passengers. The first IMLEC was staged in 1969 and the Northampton Society of Model Engineers Ltd. hosted it in 1996 and again in 1999.

Chris Orchard, a member of the Northampton Club and one of the dedicated band who prepared the web-based index to Model Engineer, has written a history of IMLEC which is included in this web site.
