This interview was conducted on February 6th, on 11AM (a morning news program based in Sydney). It airs on Channel Seven. The program is hosted by Anne Fullwood and Andrew Daddo - Andrew conducted the interview.
Andrew: Now you know what they say - the family that plays together, stays together. And one family in particular knows that extremely well. Their Irish flavoured rock has taken the world by storm...and they released their first album in 1995...multi-platinum around the world and they are one of Ireland's coolest and most popular exports, probably even better than Guinness...I'd say...certainly a lot better looking than Guinness. The Corrs are with us from Adelaide, how are you?
All: Hi....fine
Jim: We're good...thanks
Andrew: It's great to have you on the program. Now listen, when you first started out did you expect this global success that you've had?
Jim: Umm...we certainly didn't umm...we umm...you know we expected some sales but not...definitely not on the level that...that we had...to sell over 500,000 copies in Australia just blew us away...to be honest
Andrew: Did you...umm...when you got your first record contract...I'm sure there's a story of how you actually got it
Sharon: There is actually umm...we went over to America and we were umm...shopping for a record deal and nothing happened for umm...about two weeks and on our last day before we were supposed to go home umm...we actually gate-crashed a session with umm...Michael Jackson and David Foster and...we weren't supposed to get in there...we had no confirmed meeting but we went in and he saw us...we played a demo of Love To Love You and played acoustically and he fell in love with us and just before we got the plane home to Ireland we were told we had a record deal with Atlantic records
Andrew: Do you think he fell in love with you because you were great musicians or are you just such a stunning family?
Girls: (laugh)
Jim: Yes...he fell in love with me (pointing to himself)
All: (laugh)
Andrew: I mean (laughs)...good on you Jim...I've got to say that...I mean...you're family...you think about sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll and going on the road and partying and stuff...now you being so good looking you must have people throwing themselves at you...how do you monitor that?....do you say Sharon, no...Jim, what are you doing?...Caroline?
Sharon: (To Caroline) What was that?
Jim: Say that again, we didn't hear you.
Caroline: We didn't quite get that.
Andrew: Yeah alright...bottom line is...you know when you're out on the road do you ever blue...fight with each other or have arguments...or...
Jim: Yeah of course we do...
Girls: Yeah...
Jim: I mean we're like any other family...you know we have our moments where we do have rows but umm...most of the time we're lucky enough that we get on fairly well...(Jim and Andrea "fight")...stop it (laughs)
Andrea & Caroline: (laugh)
Andrew: Would you...I mean...you being the big brother and having three little sisters...do you assume the fatherly role there?
Jim: You're joking me...
Caroline: Father...Oh my God (laughs)
Jim: The girls would beat me around the place...no
Andrew: Well you're obviously having a really good time...do your parents...they must be incredibly proud as well
Jim: They certainly are...they actually...they're actually in Melbourne at the moment...we meet them there and then we meet them umm...in Sydney...so they're absolutely loving it...it's their first time out here.
Andrew: Do they come to your shows?
Sharon: Well they will be...yeah...we thought they'd love to see Australia seen as we fell in love with it and umm...so they'll come to the shows in Melbourne and also in Sydney
Andrew: What do you think it is about umm...certainly Dublin and certainly Ireland...there's you guys and U2 and other bands that are coming out of there and doing so well...is there something special in the water there that's helping you along?
Jim: Guinness
Sharon: Guinness
All: (laugh)
Andrew: It is the Guinness?
Sharon: Umm...
Caroline: Don't really know umm...you there's a lot of bands...I think umm...the likes of U2 and other great bands like that you know...kind of paved the way for the likes of us or other bands you know...
Andrew: Has it been difficult coming from there with umm...the success of U2?
Jim: They've probably actually paved the path for other bands to do similar.
All: (nod)
Andrew: Okay...and what's your neat...I know I've looked at your itinerary and while you're in Australia you've got...and New Zealand...three days off...so you're obviously working very, very hard...
Sharon: Actually it's more than the last...more days off than the last time we were here...which was this time last year...we did twenty-eight days out of thirty...so this is actually...a bit easier this time
Andrew: Is it as much fun as you thought it was going to be or is it pretty much a slog around the world?
Caroline: Well it's fun in Australia...anyway...that's for definite
All: (laugh)
Andrew: Alright...well listen...we look forward to seeing you ...you're coming here...to Sydney very soon...and...the Australian tour is well underway. Congratulations on the success.
Sharon: Thankyou very much
Caroline: Thankyou
Andrea: Thankyou...thanks
Jim: Thanks very much...thankyou
Andrew: Absolute pleasure to speak to you
Jim: Thankyou
Andrew: I'm telling you!
All: (laugh)
Andrew: Actually they're real name is Smith but you know...they actually changed their name to the Corrs 'cause everyone looks at them and they go...Coooorrrr...true
All: (laugh)
Andrew: Why don't you guys sing us to the break...can you give us a bit of umm...one of your songs...to the commercial?
Sharon: Okay
Andrea: Okay
Caroline: Okay...Okay...what will we do...Forgiven Not Forgotten
Jim: Forgiven Not Forgotten...alright
All: (singing) You're forgiven not forgotten...you're forgiven not forgotten
Andrea: Enough...oh...you're not forgotten
All: (laugh)
Andrew: Thanks very much...
Sharon: It's early (laughs)
Andrew: Great to speak to you...we'll see you soon...see you soon
Andrea: Thankyou
Sharon: Bye
Andrea: Bye
Jim: Bye
All: (wave)
