Corrs wow the office males with lunch date

By Una Bradley

A LARGE lunchtime audience crowded and pushed its way into Belfast's Virgin Megastore yesterday to see Runaway success pop group The Corrs.

The mostly male fanbase cheered and applauded excitedly as the Dundalk family foursome took the stage to play live from their new album, Talk on Corners.

After blasting out their current single, Only In My Sleep, the glamorous sisters, all in black, played the fiddle intro that everyone recognised - that of last year's massive hit single, Runaway.

Two songs later, and it was clear that the group's magic formula of Celtic-inspired pop, complete with bodhran and tin whistle, could still work miracles.

Businessmen and students alike appeared beguiled by the girls, who smiled and pouted their way through a lively, melodic set.

"They mix old music with new rock," said David Conlon, a student from Newry.

"They're Irish, they're traditional and they're modern," said 22-year-old Shileen McCann, from Lurgan.

"It's good to see something good coming out of Dundalk, unlike the football team," joked Damian Flood, from Newry.

Yesterday's release of Talking on Corners positions it nicely for a Christmas number one, which is exactly where The Corrs' debut album, Forgiven not Forgotten ended up last year.
