A warts and all documentary on pop sensations the Corrs is to be screened worldwide to millions of fans on St. Paddy's Day.

The one-hour special traces their progress from schooldays right up to meeting the Pope in Rome just before Christmas.

The group's agent Barry Gaster said the quartet were filmed from the early days. "There are hundreds of hours of tape. We handed 80 cans of film to RTE and they're busy editing down at the moment."

The station is selling the special to networks and cable channels around the world. The pop idols are the latest Irish sensations to follow U2 and the Cranberries to international fame.

Their rags to riches tale sees Andrea, Caroline, Sharon and Jim travelling from their native Dundalk to Malibu, California where they recorded their million-seller Talk On Corners.

Highlights of the documentary include a mad scramble by sailors on the JFK aircraft carrier to pick up singer Andrea after she toppled over during a performance on the ship in Dublin Bay.

Barry said: "Where the likes of U2 adopt causes. The Corrs just sing the songs. But everybody loves them.

"The special will probably be called The Corrs: The Story."

The group were discovered by talent scout John Hughes when he was auditioning the young hopefuls for rock comedy The Commitments.

Andrea was given a small part in the hit film, and John offered to manage them as soon as she finished school.
