Corr blimey
By LEE HARPIN
CORR-ECTION! It's not Aussie soap babe Natalie Imbruglia youre staring at, it's sexy singer Andrea Corr.
She's a dead ringer for the chart-topping ex-Neighbours star. But the startling resemblance doesn't end there.
For Andrea and her stunning musician sisters Sharon (violin) and Caroline (drums), along with brother Jim (piano), are all set to conquer the pop world with their band The Corrs.
They have notched up a string of international hits and credits for films such as The Commitments and Evita in the three years since releasing their debut album. Now they are about to become huge.
Fresh from a sell-out gig at London's Royal Albert Hall, the Irish family foursome based in Dundalk expect their biggest UK chart success with new single Talk On Corners.
Andrea says: "There's a big buzz in the UK over the new single. But it's not as if we're unknowns. Our last album reached No 7 in the English charts."
Outside the UK, The Corrs have also stacked up quite astonishing sales figures on every single they've released. Debut album Forgiven Not Forgotten sold two million worldwide.
But success has been achieved on the back of a lot of hard work and a gruelling schedule.
"We tried to travel the whole world at once and nearly ended up killing ourselves," says Andrea. "I wouldn't change what we did but I wouldn't do it again."
They're now intent on hitting the big time closer to home and look certainties to do so. The Corrs are tipped by just about every expert in the music industry to become one of Britain's top selling bands of the year.
They have come a long way since they were chosen for The Commitments after only their first-ever proper live performance together at the audition.
"We didn't have a clue what we were doing," admits Sharon. "But we got parts and that gave us the boost to start playing the Dublin clubs."
Following The Commitments success, Andrea landed a part alongside Madonna in hit movie Evita. She says: "Madonna was down-to-earth and confessed to being a fan of our music, which was a massive compliment."
Despite film success, Andrea admits that pop is still her first love. That's confirmed by the way she struts her stuff with saucy dance routines and high-octane singing at gigs.
And drummer Caroline has won an army of male fans as she hammers away in her trademark black gloves.
"Everyone always goes on about us being so attractive," says Caroline.
"We're not complaining, though we'd rather our music came first."
