'Today' Television Interview
Interviewer-Richard Wilkins
Transcribed by Jess Lai
Richard: Good morning to you (referring to TV audience). Today on the show, we're about to meet...uh...one of the music world's most successful acts for the last twelve months. The Corrs, the Irish four piece family group who's second national tour, in just a year, is all but sold out. And their debut album has sold an incredible 500,000 copies. Forgiven, Not Forgotten.
(Shows a bit of Runaway clip)
Richard: It's almost incredible to think that little over 12 months ago, The Corrs were completely unknown in this territory and now you've sold all these records. It's...it's incredible for us. How does it feel to you?
Caroline: It's amazing. I mean it's just...if...if you wanted to make it anywhere, it would be Australia 'cause the tour here is fantastic. And I mean...yeah...we've been here three times. The first time was for a promotion, the second time; we gigged and now we're gigging here for a month. So it's fantastic. It feels wonderful.
Richard: You provided a textbook example, if there is such a thing, on how to achieve success in this country. Take us back twelve months and tell us how you did it.
Jim: Well, we did an unbelievable amount of...uh...promotional work. Really intensive work from that point on. Starting of...I think it was America and basically got up at 6 o'clock in the morning , every morning, you know, flying to maybe a couple of cities each day. And...uh...that was...that sort of set the pattern for...for a lot of the promotion we did. Throughout Europe as well, for the...for the following three months. And then we started to play live, I think it was September. And...uh...we were lucky to get support offered with Celine Dion. Uh...so we toured a lot of the world with her.
(Shows skits of their concerts)
Jim: And we actually toured with her three times. And then we started to headline on our own, and it just grew and grew and grew. And, you know, thankfully it's...it's worked out so well.
Sharon: We had a crazy time coming to Australia, the first time we came over. Um...I think it's a territory thata sometimes gets ignored...um...by bands. And it's one place that...well we really wanted to come here in the first place. Never mind us to make it out here. But...um...we had such an intensive schedule. I think we left Ireland...um...from doing tours with Celine and we head...we head...we headed for Atlanta in America. A day later we were in Canada, three days later we were in Japan, five days later we were in London, 2 days later we were in France and then the next day we flew to Australia. So we did four continents in three weeks.
Richard: Ouch.
Caroline: Ouch. (laughs)
Jim: And the worst...we were jetlag...
Sharon: And we were jetlag for just...as they say in America, "it was killer" (laughs)
