Interviewer-Richard Wilkins
Richard to audience: Moving right along and time well spent with Irish family
group; The Corrs. who burst the scene last year with a string of hits which featured their
unique Celtic Folk/Rock style. Once again we welcome Jim, Sharon, Caroline and Andrea back
to our shores.
(Shows a bit of I
Never Loved You Anyway clip)
Richard: I Never Loved You Anyway - great title, good song but do I detect a bit of
male bashing here?
Caroline: No (laughs)
Andrea: No, it's not...
Richard: Yes it is.
Andrea: I think...
Richard: You're picking on us boys.
Andrea: No, I think...
Caroline: No, no (laughs)
Sharon: Picking on us boys (laughs)
Andrea: I think it's all relative, right. It's coming from a girl's mouth but
y'know you could say it too. You could say you never loved me anyway.
Jim: That's right. You could say it too.
Richard: But you're saying it. You're singing to your male fans.
Andrea: No, y'know...do you know what it really is? It's tongue and cheek and it's
um, y'know, the stage in a relationship where it starts off and, y'know, when it's over
and she's been dumped, obviously. He's with somebody else and uh so initially pining,
crying, boo-hoo. But then, y'know, to get over it, y'know, to get over it, it's defense
mechanism, you write down a list of all the things that you didn't like and it's just
funny, y'know. Now everybody can do it; male and female. I don't mind being bashed if you
want to (laughs)
Richard: You romantic fool.
All laugh
(More of 'I Never Loved You Anyway' is played)
Richard: Who's the boss?
Andrea: (laughs)
Jim: Go (to his sisters). God. God's the boss
Richard: No, who's the head Corr?
Sharon: There's no, there's none. I mean we'd kill each other if somebody tried to
assume the role of boss. We do everything, I suppose, by a democracy, really. We vote
and...
Richard: What if it's too old?
Caroline: Well, we always have our manager...
Sharon: ...fight.
Andrea: Our manager.
Caroline: ...involved in that as well...
Richard: Aaah
Caroline: So, y'know, the fifth...
Richard: Are you still close?
Sharon: We're closer.
Andrea: We're closer.
Richard: Yeah?
Andrea: I think um, I think, like, I mean it's just normal family dynamics, y'know.
I mean myself and Caroline were like, there's a year between us. So we were like twins
brought up. There's more years between me and Jim. So I...he's not actually part of my
childhood memories...other than the smells coming from a bedroom (looks at Jim and
everyone laughs).
Sharon: Oh my god!
Andrea: Only joking.
Richard: What sort of...gees I wouldn't stand for that.
Andrea: I just meant his socks.
Richard: Alright, okay.
(Shows a bit of Only When I Sleep clip)
Richard: You've just been voted sexiest woman in Ireland, Andrea and I guess, as
the singer of the group, you have pressures on you to maybe contemplate a solo career at
some stage?
Andrea: Absolutely not. No, no.
Richard: Would you?
Andrea: Um, we are...this is, y'know, this is exactly where we want to be, what
we've been doing and this is together, and I think it'd be very, very difficult for anyone
one of us to do it alone.
Richard: You seem to be getting on pretty well now, but I would imagine that you
would have some spectacular cat fights, that Irish temper coming out.
Andrea: We've had good ones. We've had serious um...I think when we first started,
we had more of them.
Caroline: More of that.
Andrea: Now we're nearly too tired for that kind of stuff.
Caroline: Yeah.
Andrea: But um we, like now, at this stage, it comes down to just irritations,
y'know. As in, if you're tired from flight or whatever, it's like...
Sharon: You're just sick of looking at the same faces all the time y'know..
Caroline: Yeah, right.
Sharon: That basically, you just, "oh god, it's you again" y'know, and
then you have breakfast with them every morning and then you eat with them and then you
get on stage with them...
Caroline: It's like "go away".
Andrea: And all your moods, because you're there, everybody's mood is so
transparent. You'd just wish, for a change, you could be with somebody who didn't see your
mood. You know what I mean?
Caroline: Yeah.
Sharon: Mm.
Andrea: You couldn't like look through, like, "oh, like Andrea's feeling this
way" or y'know...
Richard: Shut up.
Caroline: (laughs)
Andrea: Kinda like "I'm not in a bad mood!".
(More of 'Only When I Sleep' is played)
Richard to audience: The sparkling personality of The Corrs. The girls are very
pleasant too and the band will be performing and signing albums at Sydney's Warringah Mall
on Saturday at midday and the shows at the State Theatre nearing sold out. Six shows in
all at Sydney and Newcastle and then Canberra, finally on the tour. Nice people and good
to have them back in the country. This is their most successful territory in the world.
Steve (another of the hosts): Really?
Richard: Yeah, they sold more albums here than they do anywhere else.
