Festival Street Market

Saturday 23rd June 2012

The 2012 Street market as part of the Festival will take place in the High Street on Saturday 23rd June with stalls from local organisations and businesses filling the street.

The Festival Street Market has been a part of Eccleshall in modern times for the past thirty years with a market every two years. The tradition stretches back farther than that but records are a little sketchy to say the least although there are programmes from Festivals in the early part of the 20th century.

The market allows local clubs and associations to raise funds for their particular group whilst taking part in the towns popular event. Thousands of people flock to the event every two years even when the weather is a little damp, it does not seem to deter folks from coming an enjoying themselves.

In 2010 there were almost 80 stalls in the High Street and with traffic being politely asked to avoid the High Street for the few hours of the market, a good time seemed to had by all and many hundreds of pounds raised for local clubs and charity groups.

Eccleshall businesses played a large part in the market, as always, being the first group to be offered and take up the application for stalls in the High Street.

The residents of the town centre properties are good enough to park their cars and vehicles away from the market location allowing more access for the public to the area.

The whole festival is a coming together of business, residents and clubs and associations to provide a week long programme of events and fun activities for townsfolk and visitors alike.

The Holy trinity Church offered a special event in the church and guided tours of the 11th century building, 'Our church in the community' with exhibits from the thirty organisations that are connected to the church.

A  collection of classic cars in the High Street and a number of other display items for the public to enjoy. The Staffordshire Austin Seven club has a display of vehicles on the forecourt of The garage in Stafford Street.

In additional to the wide assortment of stalls, the towns thriving town centre shops was open as usual providing visitors with an excellent range of products and services.
