Bit of a Blog

Please feel free to drop me a line to discuss ongoing projects, or just to ask questions on something you see here.

12 July 2008

While I will continue to update this page with the latest goings on in the studio, and post current
works in progress, I've also moved with the times and started a full blown blog to allow easier and more frequent update. Check it out here.

A limited editon of Giclee prints of "Into the Storm" is currently being worked on. Details
to follow as soon as the print is proofed.

Back from this years American Society of Aviation Artists forum, this year hosted at the
Museum of Flight, Seattle, work is already underway on my next major project.

A couple of P-47's depart from Boxted, laden with fuel for yet another long range mission.
The finished painting to be 36" x 12", oil on canvas.
2nd March 2008

The end is in sight as the final detail is being added.
I hope to finish this in time to be able to it enter into for the 2008  ASAA Exhibition.

Oil on Canvas 36" x28"
This painting is available for purchase, so drop me an email if interested
20th  January 2008

Steady progress has been made, with detail starting to be added, although
the painting as a whole only some 50-60% complete at this stage

And a grey scale version acting as a value study

16th  November 2007

Things have moved on a little with the line drawing being transfered to the canvas and the background blocked in,
together with a value study of the aircraft being worked to ensure the light and shadows play across the aircraft
correctly.

The canvas is 36" x28"

Sorry about the somewhat dodgy photos due to the lack of daylight here.
24th  September 2007

I've started work on a large project to run alongside the next few colour studies as it will take some time
to complete due to it's size and complexity. No title at the moment but it will be an A-6a Intruder in Vietnam.

The intial thumbnail sketch, in pen on my phone pad. The actual sketch is only  2x2.5"

Work underway on the base line drawing. As you can see the aicraft measures some 20" (50cm) nose to tail.
Early days on the drawing but its starting to look like an Intruder.
Markings likely to be for VA-35 Black Panthers, but by no means definate.
24th  August 2007
B25-J Strafer - now officially titled "Birds of Prey"

This one is now finished and available for purchase.
The 498th BS known as the Falcons painted garish bright yellow and green bird heads on the noses of their aircraft.

The Boys from the Bennington
20"x 8" colour study complete and in the WWII gallery.
This painting was the result of a quick sketch while on the phone (yes it was a pretty boring phone call), and from that small sketch the idea was born.

6th - 13th May 2007
I attended the annual American Society of Aviation Artists (ASAA) Forum, held this year in Baltimore, with their annual International Aerospace Exhibition being hosted at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The exhibition runs from the 6th May to 7th September in the International Terminal.
Visit the ASAA website for more on this.

I was immensely proud to be awarded a Silver Founders award for "On Final" which I had taken along, with the award being presented by Keith Ferris and John Clark.
