Shamrock 201, a F-4J Phantom of VMFA-333 scores the only aerial kill
(on a VPAF MiG 21) by a USMC aircraft, 11th September 1972. Flown by Major
Lee Lasseter, with Captain John Cummings in the rear seat the pair engaged up to
six MiGs in the engagement with a confirmed kill on one and a possible on a
second. Low on fuel as they returned to their carrier the USS America they were
hit by a SAM and the plane destroyed. Both the crew ejected sucessfully and were
picked up by rescue helicopters.
