Monthly digest of news from HOLY TRINITY CHURCH South Woodham Ferrers
COUNTDOWN TO RE:FRESH

Please pray for our friends in the churches of central Chelmsford, as they come together for the first Chelmsford Christian Festival from 12th to 20th July.

Now is the time to book tickets. There are three evenings in particular which may sell out sooner than others:

  • Godspell on the Monday evening, 14th July

  • The children’s event on the Tuesday evening, 15th July: children from Chelmsford primary schools will be showcasing their talent

  • The London Community Gospel Choir on the final Saturday evening, 19th July

The Festival box office will be open throughout the day from Monday 7th July. Initially it will be at the Central Baptist Church, Victoria Road South, and will move to the main Festival site in Central Park, Chelmsford, at the end of that week.

DO YOU USE THE ‘T’ SWITCH on your hearing aid whilst in church? Do bear in mind that the deaf loop is laid around the edge: that means that reception is weakest in the front four rows of chairs, especially around the centre. For a stronger signal, you may find it better to sit towards the rear or at the sides, within a few yards of the wall.

SWF HEALTHCARE 2000 GROUP

On Wednesday 9th July 2008 at 5.30pm until 8.00pm this group will be holding its first open public meeting, in the main hall at William de Ferrers School. The subjects will include:

  • The Strategic Health Authority’s consultation about its strategic plan for the next few years;
  • A presentation entitled "Improving Public Health and Addressing Health Inequalities" by Cathy Hamlyn, Director of National Support Team Development at the Department of Health;
  • Mid Essex PCT’s consultation on its 24/7 services;
  • An update on the new Essex & Southend LINk (Local Involvement Network) for health and social care.

A light buffet will be available for those who register in advance - see further details in church notice sheets as the date approaches. Please put this in your diary and promote it to everyone you know.

LAST TO LEAVE HOLY TRINITY?  Before locking the door, please check that all lights are off and no microphones left out - also that the meeting room window clamps are pressed firmly into their lock-down position. Don’t forget to check the loos - we don’t want anyone locked in! Do take care not to leave fans running or the microphone system ‘live’ - thanks for your help, we don’t employ a caretaker.

Ward Chaplains and Eucharistic Ministers at Broomfield Hospital

The Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy Team is seeking people of faith to work with them to offer spiritual care to all who use our hospitals. This involves regular visiting of a ward once a week, meeting patients, relatives and staff. It is a valuable and challenging role.

Training for this specialised work is provided by the Chaplains, and regular supervision is given when visiting begins. Our Ward Chaplains find this service to be a time of personal and spiritual growth and their work is greatly valued by patients of all cultures and faiths.

The qualities we are seeking in Ward Chaplains are faith, commitment, open-mindedness, personal skills in conversing and listening, willingness to learn, ability to cope with strong emotions and awareness of the need to maintain confidentiality.

The Chaplaincy Team currently consists of twenty two Ward Chaplains and four Trust Chaplains:

  • The Revd Guy Goodall, Team Leader / Free Church Chaplain
  • Sister Jean Searson, Deputy Team Leader / Roman Catholic Chaplain
  • The Revd Doug Loveridge. Associate / Anglican Chaplain
  • Father Niall Harrington, Roman Catholic Priest.
  • We would ask you to consider whether God may be calling you to this ministry, and if so to speak to your minister or priest first of all and call us on 01245 515244. We will be asking for a reference from your church leader, and there is a selection process which includes CRB and Occupational Health checks before acceptance for training. Ward visiting takes place weekly, in the morning or afternoon.

    We also need a small number of Eucharistic ministers to take Holy Communion or lead prayers for patients on one Sunday morning per month. This needs authorisation by your church authorities and a recommendation from your priest or minister, with selection and training as above. The closing date for applications is Friday 11th July 2008.

    BRADWELL PILGRIMAGE

    Saturday 5th July, meet at Bradwell on Sea for 11 a.m. service at St. Thomas’ Church. Stroll to St. Peter’s Chapel and join in renewal of Baptism vows on the beach, as we recall St. Cedd landing here to bring Christianity to Essex in AD 654. Listen to reflections & presentations on the theme of water. Wear something blue! 3.15pm closing service at St. Peter’s Chapel. Bring picnic lunch. Transport is available from Bradwell to the Chapel for the infirm.

    JOINT CHURCH COUNCIL
    On 10th July at 7.30 p.m. our JCC AGM will be held at the church. Everyone is entitled and encouraged to attend, so do come along & have your say in the running of Holy Trinity as a shared church venture.

    FLOSS HENDERSON A letter of thanks has been received from Roger, Derek and the family which is on the notice board. You will wish to know that £703.05 was sent to NCH in her memory.

    This edition is sponsored by Sheila and John Emmines
    to celebrate the baptism of their Grandson William James.
