In And Around Yeovil

Yeovil is the largest town in South Somerset and a centre for local and regional services. The town and surrounding areas offer an excellent variety of shopping, recreational and cultural facilities.

Local Attractions

Yeovil is a thriving town with a range of facilities including the following: -

  • The Quedam Shopping Centre
  • A weekday market offering local and regional produce
  • The Octagon Theatre
  • Nine Springs Country Park
  • A modern multiplex cinema and 10-pin bowling arena
  • Goldenstones leisure centre with Gym, Health Club and swimming pool
  • Ham Hill Country Park (5 miles away near the village of Stoke-sub-Hamdon) offering outstanding views of the Somerset countryside, good walking trails and a friendly pub.

Regional Attractions

For those of you eager to travel further afield, there are a tremendous variety of attractions available in the West Country. These include: -

  • The historic cities of Exeter, Wells and Bath - all under an hour's drive away
  • The beautiful town of Sherborne - with it's abbey and two castles
  • Numerous stately homes, including Stourhead, Montacute, Athelhampton and Powderham Castle

Sporting Facilities

Yeovil is home to a famous football team, now in the third division of the Nationwide League and with an impressive stadium and facilities. Other sporting facilities in the area include golf at Yeovil and Sherborne, Water Sports at Sutton Bingham reservoir and Horse Racing at Wincanton, Exeter, Taunton and Bath. Clay Pigeon shooting and Go-Kart events are also popular in this area.
