Orphanage Life

Sheila Margaret Strachen Mclean was a child at the orphanage from 11 until 15/16
Sheila was born in 1925 and is now just about to turn 83 on 10th April.

She wrote a poem about the war whilst at the orphanage aged 13

The Right Spirit

The Jerries may come over here
Their Heinkels soaring high
They may drop pounds and tons of bombs
We won’t sit down and cry

We’ll down into the shelter go
Sing, laugh and be merry
While Spitfires do their gallant work
And put the wind up Jerry

If we happen to lose this war
Dare any say we will
It’s not through lack of cheerfulness
Nor of the forces skill

At all events we’re coming up
While Musso’s going flop
Adolph Hitler follows suit
And we’ll come out on top
