He was born in Govan, Glasgow in 1866 and died in an Edgbaston nursing home in 1938.
Mr Leckie had been managing director of a large leather company based in Walsall - they made some of the equipment on Scott's last voyage.
He presented Jerome K Jerome with the Freedom of The Borough of Walsall.
He helped in founding a Nursing Institute in memory of Queen Victoria.
He bought a carillon for Walsall. The bells (installed in 1953) are housed in the Council House Tower.
Mr Leckie was hard of hearing for much of his life, and this makes his achievements all the more impressive.
Mr Leckie was a keen yachtsman and an excellent swimmer .
Mr Leckie was a businessman, municipal enthusiast, educationalist, social worker, philanthropist, temperance advocate and churchman. His activities in these areas over many years, his concern for children, the poor, sick and needy, triggered the heart of the man who relentlessly pursued high ideals and spent his life in the service of others. the service of others.
