Be prepared
You will nearly always get some warning that a shot like this
is likely to develop. The horse and cart was seen approaching
followed by a small group of children. It was obvious that a
picture might be in the offing so the camera was slipped out
from under my jacket as the troupe passed by. When one of the
boys made a dive for the back of the cart and climbed aboard
the picture was taken.
It was gratifying that the kids
hardly noticed me - a stranger in a remote desert town and were
far more interested in the horse and cart. But I suspect that
was partly due to not having cameras in full view as the group
passed by.
