    You will rarely be refused permission to take a photograph of someone at work if you take the trouble to ask. In fact, the harder the person's job, the more likely it will be that he will agree. There is often a great sense of pride in the minds of people who do hard physical work, and they are usually pleased that their efforts and skills are recognised by a photographer

    It doesn't make any difference if you are taking photographs for your own pleasure or professionally. In this case the approach went something like: 'Hello there, I'd love to take a picture of you while you're working, especially with that fantastic view behind you. Is that alright?' Be positive but not pushy.
