HOW WILL YOU BENEFIT FROM A PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP?

During your weekend you will enjoy personal tuition from a highly experienced professional photographer. Former Sunday Times Travel Photographer, Philip Dunn will help you in a way that books and magazines never can; by demonstration and first hand tuition. He will work alongside you, explaining how to transform your thoughts and visual ideas into the creation of truly memorable photographs.

Aptly-named 'Seaside', is the home of Photo Active workshops, and your weekend base in Dumfries and Galloway in south west Scotland

'Seaside' is a listed building and has its feet almost in the sea. Here you will join Philip and his wife Norene and enjoy great home cooking and a very happy atmosphere. You can relax and talk photography to your heart's content, and take home the confidence and practical skills that will enable you to achieve better results.

If you are in luck and the boats come in, you may be able to photograph your own fish dinner as it arrives on the quayside (see picture right). When it is available, fresh Solway fish and local produce is always on the table at 'Seaside'.

FOR THE COMFORT OF EVERYONE, 'SEASIDE' IS A NO SMOKING HOUSEHOLD

Philip will explain and demonstrate how to 'think' pictures; how to make landscapes and pictures of people come to life. He will share with you professional techniques that will enable you to take better photographs. Landscape and people photography are his specialities, and during your weekend you will cover as much of the following as time permits...
  •  Landscape photography: how to look at and capture landscape in photographic terms. How to take best advantage of the weather and light conditions.
  • People photography: gain the confidence that will enable you to approach people you want to photograph, and how to get them to co-operate. How to capture the essence of your subject's personality
  • Composition - the rules and how to break them successfully.
  • Camera handling and technique, including best lenses for the job, filters and film.
  • During the weekend, TIME PERMITTING, you can have a C41 film processed and your results discussed constructively and helpfully.
  • You will have an opportunity to look at image scanning and simple manipulation with Adobe Photoshop.
  • How to produce pictures you can sell for cash. You will benefit from Philip's long experience in taking pictures that people want to buy.
  • You will learn how to make pictures 'happen', and see that photography becomes a lot more FUN the more you know about it.

Galloway
This is the hidden part of Scotland where you will learn many new camera techniques and improve your ability to capture on film the scenes around you. You may also meet local craftsmen and fishermen - and have an opportunity to photograph them at work. You might even be eating fresh Solway fish for dinner if the boats come in! Anything is possible on a Photo Active Workshop. We MAKE pictures happen here.
