Phil Wright

42 years

6' 3"

22.5 stone (315lbs 142kg)

Although basically a trainer and promoter he has competed in the Allhallows Contests and the Peacock Gym and Forum Gym Team Strongman Challenges and the “B” group Britain’s qualifiers. He only started training seriously in 2000  with his training partner Andy Mavin to give the British Strongest Man qualifiers a go at Jamie Reeves Gym in Sheffield on 4th March, 2001. He was off work sick with flu a week before the B group show and was very disappointed with his final place of 21st .

Phil started training at 14 as a judo player and did this for 6 years obtaining his black belt. Boxing followed in his mid twenties as a heavyweight where he beat Julius Francis, who become the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion who also fought Mike Tyson.

Weight lifting formed part of his training from the age of 15. After boxing his weight went up to about 19 stone with heavy training but extremely good living! including copious amounts of Guinness.

Interest in Strongman came from his friend Adam Waldron who won the UK Docklands Strongman Challenge Open in 1997.

5 reps from the floor in the 60 seconds allowed with the 100kg log.

Sheffield “B” group Mar 2001

6 lifts with 235kg (however only 4 allowed as first and last reps diabolical!)
