UK Docklands Strongman Challenge 1998

A truly spectacular show laid on by Tony and Martin from the Peacock with some gutsy performances from all the competitors. Judged by the great strongman Jamie Reeves.

Some new characters appeared on the scene like Big John Collins a crowd favourite. Obviously a very strong man but he needs some specific strongman training to fully utilise his potential.

Sean Maguire, last years novice winner, gave his best amongst the big boys, performing better on the second day after a slow start.

Last years winner Adam "Mr. Clean" Waldron seemed not to have his heart in it and was suffering from food poisoning on the second day although he still came in a creditable 5th.

Fraser Tranter's improvement was there for all to see and his win in the farmers walk with those 21 stone cases was very impressive.

Brian Bell looked a little lacklustre by his standards as I believe this was his first contest this year, although still a good 4th place.

Sebastian Abbetiello looked in great shape and was another crowd favourite and what a performance in being the first to complete the gutbuster.

Russ Bradleys class shone again as he was taken pretty close to the wire by Fraser Tranter.

Barry Saunders who trains at Dartford won the backing of the crowd with his "do or die" attitude.

The above scoreboard may not be up to date as I believe one of the competitors pulled out at the last minute and a brother of another competitor, I think Barry Saiunders, stepped in at the last minute and had a good old go. If anyone has the full story please mail me.
