The Explorer CS has had its lines taken from the Nigel Dennis designed Explorer Sea Kayak and is professionally built by Sea Kayak
Services using modern boat building techniques.

The overall length, width and volumes of the Explorer CS are the same as the original Explorer.

Dimensions

Length:  17'8" (5.40m)

Width:     21.5" (0.54m)

The Explorer CS is a composite kayak using a combination of wood, carbon fibre, glass fibre and an epoxy resin system to create a
sea kayak that is both light (approx 26 kg) and made exceptionally stiff through the use of a unidirectional carbon fibre structure.

Deck and Hull Construction

Core material for both the deck and the hull is 6mm western red cedar strips sandwiched between 2 layers of 6oz plain weave glass
cloth. Several layers of epoxy are then required to bury the weave and allow the kayak to be faired before the final finishing with four
layers of two pack polyurethane varnish.

The deck and hull are joined together with 2" & 3" glass tape on the inside seam. 1" glass tape is used on the external seam with a
1" black strip painted along the sheer line to define the lines of the kayak.

Before the kayak is sheathed in glass a geodesic structure of unidirectional carbon fibre tape is fixed into the kayak. This structure is
then connected when the deck and hull are joined together making the kayak into a very rigid monocoque construction.

Deck Fittings

Deck fittings on the Explorer CS are designed by SKUK and fit flush to the deck using the same layout of deck lines and deck elastics
as per the standard Explorer Sea kayak.

All 3 hatches including the offset day hatch are recessed into the deck using glass fibre. The day hatch can be situated on either side
of the kayak depending on whether the paddler is left or right handed. The standard hatch recesses will be constructed in glass fibre
finished with a black, 2 pack polyurethane paint system.

Cockpit

The keyhole cockpit coaming and recess is constructed in glass fibre with a black finish as per the hatch recesses.

Bulkheads

The sloping rear bulkhead behind the seat is again a standard feature of the Explorer CS. As standard, all bulkheads are constructed
from cedar strip and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy before being fitted with 2" glass tape. The forward bulkhead can be custom
fitted, please state distance you require the bulkhead to be fitted from the front edge of the keyhole cockpit to the desired position of
the forward bulkhead when ordering. The forward bulkhead in the standard Explorer CS is positioned 46cm (18") forward of the front
edge of the cockpit.

Skeg

The Explorer CS is fitted with the new Kari-Tek skeg box allowing the kayak to be fitted with a hydro, wire or rope operated skeg
system. This system also allows easy maintenance and damaged skeg cassettes can be replaced easily. The standard Explorer CS
is fitted with a Kari-Tek wire skeg.   For more information on Kari-Tek Skeg Systems click here

Compass

There is no recessed deck fitting for a 70P Compass with the Explorer CS model.

Price
