Go WAP

Continuing the constant push for the new 'internet on your mobile' WAP technology BT Cellnet have launched a pay-as-you-go WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) package. Mobile Internet Pay As You Go packages in the shops are £99.99, including WAP mobiles which can access  the WAP-enabled Internet sites and send and receive e-mail directly from the handset. 

 


New Vodafone Pre-Pay Package

Service charge and expiry dates are no more with Vodafones latest package. Existing Vodafone customers will still have to pay for Service charge, unless they change to the new package. The new ‘Pay as you Talk all calls’  will cost from £60 and will initially be available in packs with a choice of four handsets – the Siemens C25, Ericsson A1018, the Motorola M3788 and the Trium Astral. The packs will come with £10 worth of free calls – £2.50 preloaded on the phone and an additional £7.50 worth of calls on registration. Calls will be charged during weekdays at 35p per minute peak-rate and 10p per minute off-peak, while weekend calls will cost 10p per minute from 7.30am to 7.30pm and 5p per minute from 7.30pm to 7.30am. Ericsson Reveal New Models 


Ericsson get set to launch a new range of mobiles this year, including WAP-enabled handsets, a redesigned budget model and a new lighter shock/dust/water-resistant handset.

Look out for the R320, Ericsson's first WAP-enabled handset to go on the market in the UK. It's a slimline, lightweight, model (15mm depth, less than 100g) that has voice control dialing, an infrared modem built in, large LCD screen, and a microbrowser for accessing Internet services via WAP. The higher model R380 Smartphone will feature a large LCD paneled touch screen PDA with WAP browser.

 


The future is 10 times faster

The limitations on speed with Europe's existing GSM Network get set to be released by the launch of the new UMTS network which will bring speeds up to 10 times the current speed of GSM. The Network is being brought to reality by 
Manx Telecom, a subsidiary of BT based on the Isle of Man. The company was granted a license by the Isle of Man's Government last Summer. The network will start early next year.
