Ballyhackamore had a
life and a character of it’s own when Belfast was only a collection of
houses. With the extension of
the city boundary to Connswater and later to Knock Road, the development
and extension of Ballyhackamore commenced. Later, with the coming of the
railways and the development of the suburb of Knock, the abundance of
skilled craftspeople made Ballyhackamore a natural source of tradespeople
and labourers providing all kinds of services to their new neighbours.
Transport was an
important factor in the life of a village. From the early part of the 20th
Century, public transport progressed from the horse trams, electric trams,
buses, trolley buses to the present day City bus fleet.
