Pickled Carp Adventures Extreme Nymphing - South African Yellowfish |
|
We fished in pairs for safety, if one got into trouble the other could lend a hand. One example of such a situation was when Rob lost his Snobee wading staff after the cord frayed, Des was able to help Rob return to dry land and safety. There was another reason for fishing in pairs too. With the river running so high we encountered a problem that I had not seen before, Water Hyacinth. The extreme levels were dislodging the huge beds that form most of the margins on the river, these would come down the rapids in rafts, the rough water would break up into clumps that could snag your line, usually at the most inopportune moment. Richard comes to Rob's rescue when a clump of hyacinth catches on his line whilst playing a fish.

After a long day on the river, in the sun and heat, relaxing with a beer and a braai was just the ticket.

Occasionally we would have a few cooling Gin & Tonics, Rob was not so sure.

Richard really liked them.

Des would have too many!

However, he would be up bright and early the next day and back on the river for some more Yellowfish action.
