Open Assessment Weeks

This Panel offers opportunities for those young people who are unable to find other participants who can help to form a group in order that they can complete the expedition section.

For further information on the Open Weeks offered by this Panel you will have to consult the Award Journal which is published by the Award Scheme. If you are unable to find a copy of the most recent Award Journal you should contact your own Operating Authority or your regional Office.

This Panel can also help to organize training facilities at weekends for groups of young people. This facility can only be provided when there are sufficient interested participants to make such a weekend viable.

Mountain Rescue Services

It is hoped that you will not need to use the services of any of the local Mountain Rescue Teams but if you do then you will need to contact Brecon Police who co-ordinate all rescues. Dial 999 and ask for the police and then once you have been connected with the police you ask for Mountain Rescue. They will need to know as much information as you can give then so be prepared to help as much as you can.

They will need to know :-

  1. time of accident
  2. location of accident :- OS Sheet Number with Grid Reference (6 figure)
  3. description of area surrounding scene of accident
  4. injured person's information :-
    1. name
    2. injuries sustained
    3. state of consciousness

If a group does call out the Mountain Rescue Service they must also inform their supervising adult and their assessor as soon as they possibly can.
