Types of Ventures

This provides details of the types of ventures (expedition or exploration) that can be undertaken in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Please note that if the venture is not to be assessed by the Beacons X Panel, the Panel Secretary should still be notified on a "Green".

Expeditions

Walking

Walking expeditions at all levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) can be undertaken. Please note that participants at Bronze and Silver must be trained to Gold level standards.

Cycling (see cycle ways web site)

Cycling expeditions at all levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) can be undertaken. Please note that participants at Bronze and Silver must be trained to Gold level standards. Please do not to use Offa's Dyke as there is a great deal of erosion along this route.

Horse riding

Horse riding expeditions at all levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) can be undertaken. Please note that participants at Bronze and Silver must be trained to Gold level standards. If you are organising a horse riding expedition, it may be to your advantage if you contact Paul Redrup, Eastern Regional Officer.

Canoeing

Canoeing expeditions at Bronze and Silver levels can be undertaken on the Brecon canal. Although the canal is suitable for a silver expedition, the Panel would advise that silver ventures should be an exploration rather than an expedition - more interest to the participants. Please note that the maximum number for a canoe venture is now 8.

Walking explorations at all levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) can be undertaken. Please note that participants at Bronze and Silver must be trained to Gold level standard.
