The Collection
The collection currently contains examples of 23 taxa in the genus Equisetum.
It was accepted as an NCCPG National Collection® in August 1996.
In July 1999, some plants from the collection were exhibited in the Plant Heritage Marquee at the Hampton Court Flower show. Some pictures of the exhibit at Hampton Court can be seen on another page.
The Saturday 14 August 1999 edition of The Times newspaper carried an article about the collection. You can see an electronic version on their web site.
The collection is a private one but is available for viewing by prior appointment and small amounts of material can be made available for scientific purposes. I am working on a comprehensive set of detailed descriptions and illustrations of the genus worldwide which should in turn be used for taxonomic studies.
I am trying to build the collection to add some missing taxa and, in addition, to get representatives of different geographical populations. If anyone is able to supply me with living material of known origin to propagate, especially from outside Europe, please let me know. I can cover reasonable costs of postage, etc., or reciprocate with other Equisetum or perhaps something more appropriate. |
