Amanda Keene

Showing November 12, 2006 - January 13, 2007

I was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1968.  A self-taught artist, I have been painting for as long as I can remember.  I sold my first painting 18 years ago in a shop where I worked as a picture framer.  Since then I have undertaken numerous and varied commissions.

Recently I have been experimenting with new styles, working with different  materials.  I love to paint with oils, exploring surface textures and mixing media.

For this series I have been inspired by reflections, vibrant colours and the effect of light in water.  I have used digital photography to manipulate the images used as a basis for some of my paintings.

During the 'conception' phase of this exhibition, (i.e. a prolonged period  of doing nothing and staring at my fish tank), I grew deeply attached to my four pet goldfish - now only three, due to the fishy demise of the  particularly handsome "Catch".  The fish were a joy to paint and made excellent sitters! I hope you enjoy them too.

All paintings in the exhibition are for sale.
